Halo, assalamu’alaikum. Sebenarnya ini mau sharing pengalaman aja, karena awalnya saya tuh ikutan program IFSEE untuk exchange ke Jepang, akan tetapi belum kesempatan lolos di tahap wawancara (alias gagal di tahap ini :(( sedih akutuh) wkwkwk. Nah, sebelum ke wawancara itu, diharuskan untuk membuat essay bahasa inggris. Saya tuh, payah banget lah pake b.ing. Tapi, dengan kekuatan do’a, google translate dan dibantu perbaikan grammar beserta kalimat oleh big bro @rfaiz (thanks banget bro corat coret merahnya) wkwkwk Essay saya lolos 80 besar cuy! Alhamdulillah. Akan tetapi ya memang banyak perbaikan sekali. Masih harus belajar lagi bahasa inggris.

Nah, untuk itu saya mau berbagi pengalaman aja + pemikiran, yang dituangkan dalam essay ini.

ISLAM TO MAKE A BETTER WAY OF LIFE IN JAPAN

 

From the spreading information Islam growth in Europe rapidly each year. Although Islamophobia issues arise because of media propagandas, those news also make another effect. A lot of people feel curious about Islam, why this religion was marked as “bad” and ultimately, they started to learn more about it. In addition to West, Japan as one of the developed countries in Asia and also the second country which most often doing bilateral with Indonesia, Japan should familiars about Islam.

Japanese people are highly dedicated people, proofed by their rapid development after the devastation of Nagasaki and Hiroshima bomb disaster. Japenese can rebuild their country along with their high work ethic and do collaboration with a lot of countries. In my opinion, based on those multilateral and global issue, I think It is not impossible that Islam will become one of the most influential religion in Japan by 2040.

Quoted from TEMPO.CO, on May 2^nd, 2018 the number of Muslims in Japan rose 25% from the previous year. The number of Muslims in Japan are 160.000 people, more than 50 times higher compared to 50 years ago which only 3000 people. Although Islam is a minority religion there, I believe this number will keep increase with some efforts than can be done by ourselves as Muslims around the world. Because Islam is the religion of rahmatan lil alamin, peace for of all people in the world, not just for those who are in one region only.

Even the number of Moslem a growing, the number of mosque facilities is not. My friend in Japan, said that he and the Muslims there, if they want to worship, they should find a quiet place and not many people. Find a food in Japan for Moslem also another challenge. Not many restaurants and supermarkets have or sell halal product.

Japanese people love science and knowledge, it is directly propotional to the belief in Islam that science must be sought because human beings are intelliegent creation. For example, Dr. Masaru Emoton from the University of Tokyo even converted to Islam (Mualaf) after being amazed at his research on zam-zam water and the miracle of Qur’an. A lot of Moslem scientist also doing da’wah there while they also keep their progress in research and study. Moreover, the number of scholarship programs that can help students from Muslim majority countries such as in Indonesia will provide large enough support for the development of Islam there. As example of this in Narita Airport there is a praying room which built for Muslims to provide a comfort place to pray.

Though not denied that Islamic values will be accepted because of many similarities between Islamic values with the habits that have already occurred in Japanese society. Like time discipline, keeping promises, being obedient to the rules, easy to forgive (sumimasen), always thanking (arigatou), professionals in work (if there are problem outside not brought in at work), always thinking how to tomorrow work more practical and also active in work as well as diligent and also polite to people. But their shortcomings are empty hearts and if they have made a mistake will be really desperate to do hara-kiri or suicide. The emptiness can be complemented if awareness of Islam can grow because in Islam the world or dunya is not the ultimate goal.

Japan known as one of the countries with a high rate of suicidal. This phenomenon occurs because of heavy pressure of life and Japanese do not know the way how to release it. As a peaceful religion, Islam can provide solution from that problem. With faith treatment, Japanese will have a strong personality and be more brave to face their life. This is just one example from a lot of things that Islam can help to make a better way of life.

Japan is illiterate country. Japanese’s interest in reading is very large. But unfortunately, the Islamic literature itself is less in Japan. More preachers who come to this country of Sakura is my hope for development of Islam in the coming year. If there are a lot of preachers, Japanese society will have a better understanding about Islam, not only just a image formed by the media such as internet or TV. Sometimes the shared media contains misunderstanding such as terrorism and the other crimes from Islam. Even Japan people just know only a few Islamic’s term such as polygamy, hajj, and the different Sunni-Syiah rush.

Da’wah method that can be done by some creative way to improve the understanding and reflection on Islam in Japan. In addition, bringing more preachers to lectures in various activities, can also through other media. We can give our best behaviour during a visit to Japan as a good model as Moslem, create a creative da’wah media, such as comics and moving images (animation), to make it easier and accepted by many people. The da’wah method also through literature and research, because a lot of science nowadays already mentioned in the Qur’an 1400 years ago, so the Japanese can see that Islam is religion of knowledge, rahmatan lil alamin and good way of life.

Another idea is expanding the Islamic Centre in some areas in Japan, cooperating with Muslim majority countries. Islam is more common in Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo and other large citties. Even Kyoto became the friendliest areas of Islam. At least, because the Japanese are so friendly and respect to the others, as a Muslims who have an opportunity to live there, who have to make a way of preaching to spread goodness. Good deeds, will not be rejected by society, especially the similarities in the culture there. And the solution of Islam as the light of all mankind will be possible and applied if Japanese society is more aware of the emptiness that befalls itself.

Hopefully in 2040, Islam can grow more rapidly and become one of the religion that provide solutions to problems that occur in Japanese society. Qur’an is the revelation of Allah which has given to all people and it is our duty to Muslims to read, study, apply, and also spread its messages to the world.
